iTANAGAR, July 30: The Adi Bane Kebang (ABK), the apex body of the Adi community has refuted the claims made by the Siang Indigenous Farmers Forum (SIFF) over the acceptance for the construction of a proposed 11,000 MW dam over Siang River in Upper Siang district.
Addressing the media at the press club here today, ABK general secretary Vijay Taram said that the ABK had previously agreed to the state government’s proposal to conduct a Detailed Feasibility Report (DFR). However, they have not given any approval for the dam's construction.
Stating there are lots of processes to be undertaken by the concern power developer, Taram also said that they are yet to give their consent for the construction of the dam by considering its potential impact on the environment and inhabitants.
Earlier the SIFF had compared the Bogum Bokang Kebang (BBK) and ABK, stating that ABK is just a mere registered organization and can’t take stand for the entire Adi community of the state.
Clarifying on the statement, Taram said that BBK is a frontal wing of ABK, thus the latter is the decision maker and they would never take any decision against its citizens.
On the sidelines, ABK also appealed to the Vice Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) to establish the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) examination centre in every district headquarters.
“Due to the introduction of CUET, with centres in Namsai and Itanagar at present, students from far flung areas had previously failed to attend the same examinations,” he said.
Hence, providing examination centres at every district headquarters would be directly benefiting the student community who opt for different colleges across the country for their further studies.
Earlier, during a press conference, the advisor of SIFF, Bhanu Tatak alleged that the ABK was supporting the construction of the dam, and also initiated the survey of land along with the power developers.
