ITANAGAR, Nov 23: In a collaborative effort to transform Itanagar into one of the cleanest cities, officials from the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) recently inspected key sanitation projects. The visit aimed to assess the progress of the 3.00 MLD Sewerage cum 100 KLD Septage treatment plant at Naharlagun and the access road to the proposed solid waste treatment plant at Chimpu near Itanagar.
Mayor Tamme Phassang, accompanied by the Commissioner, Corporators, and IMC engineers, actively engaged in the inspection. The team emphasized the timely completion of these projects, crucial for effective waste disposal, liquid waste management, and controlling pollutant discharge into rivers.
Addressing the media, Phassang highlighted the significance of underground drainage for the capital city and also pointed out the short working season in the state. “Arunachal has only four to five months of working season due to heavy summer rainfall which hampers construction work. We believe in utilizing this season efficiently to complete pending projects,” he said.
Phassang informed that the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister are actively monitoring IMC projects, and assured to complete them within the stipulated time. Providing updates on ongoing initiatives, he mentioned that the Sewerage Treatment Plant in Naharlagun is progressing swiftly in adherence to NGT guidelines, while the Septic Treatment Plant near Itanagar's highway is on the verge of completion.
