ITANAGAR, Sep 28: The Youth Mission for Clean River (YMCR) and Swachh Siluk Abhiyan, two prominent NGOs, have presented a series of proposals to the state government and the public to ensure the cleanliness of both the town and its rivers. These organizations are advocating for responsible waste management practices and community involvement in maintaining a cleaner environment.
Speaking to the media, Vice Chairman YMCR Keyom Doni stated that the key proposal among their recommendations is the segregation of dry and wet waste, along with a strong appeal to citizens to refrain from littering in water bodies. The NGOs are urging the state government to establish a recycling plant with the help of IMC to improve waste processing and reduce pollution. They believe that this would be a significant step toward sustainable waste management in the region.
Additionally, YMCR and Swachh Siluk Abhiyan have suggested the introduction of a reward system to encourage and recognize individuals who diligently follow proper waste disposal guidelines. This incentive aims to motivate citizens to participate actively in keeping their surroundings clean.
YMCR, in particular, has been at the forefront of environmental activism, regularly organizing river-cleaning drives and hosting literary competitions to raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness among the youth. Whereas SSA has received numerous awards for managing garbage and keeping their village clean and green. Siluk village, located in the Mebo subdivision of East Siang district, has been recognized as the cleanest village in the district for two consecutive years.
Earlier, Chairman SSA Kepang Nong Borang also shared the journey of his Village Siluk from one of the dirtiest to the cleanest village in the state.
