ITANAGAR, Sep 29: In the wake of the upcoming General Conference-cum-Elections of the All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU), the Nyishi Elite Society (NES), the apex body of the Nyishi community, has issued an Advisory Memorandum to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
Speaking to the media, NES President Prof. Tana Showren emphasized that the All Nyishi Students' Union, as a statutorily affiliated student federation, must adhere to the principles of accountability. "The issuance of this Advisory Memorandum is essential to uphold fairness and transparency in the election process," said Prof. Showren.
The memorandum strictly prohibits any external influence, stating, "No social group, political party, individual, or clan-based organization shall interfere in the election process, whether directly or indirectly, through financial, physical, logistic, or material support to any candidate."
It further outlined that any form of inducement, coercion, or intimidation of delegates by vested interest groups, individuals, or political parties is forbidden. Prof. Showren stressed that "delegates should not be swayed by any undue influence or personation and must remain free from such pressures."
He further added that delegates must bear their own travel and accommodation expenses for the conference, and no candidate is allowed to cover such costs. "If any candidate is found to be providing these expenses or organizing camps for delegates, strict social actions will be taken.
Additionally, delegates are instructed to refrain from accepting any form of material gratifications or inducements for votes during the conference. The memorandum also calls on Presidents and General Secretaries of the Branch Students' Unions, particularly those representing university and college students, to avoid seeking or accepting any favours from candidates.
Prof. Showren also cautioned that any involvement from political parties, self-interest groups, or clan-based organizations in attempting to influence voters would render the candidate's election invalid, leading to social isolation for the individual or group involved. "Such unethical practices will result in the candidate being declared persona non grata and may trigger community action against them," he added.
The advisory also states that any candidate, delegate, or individual found violating these guidelines will be barred from holding positions within NES or any NES-affiliated organizations. Clan-based groups are urged not to allow such individuals to hold posts in their respective organizations.
The NES has called for strict adherence to the memorandum, ensuring that the ANSU elections reflect the values of integrity and fairness within the Nyishi community.
