Advanced production technologies and entrepreneurships development

 

PASIGHAT, Nov 24: A two days National level workshop on “Advanced production technologies and entrepreneurships development prospects in Arecanut, Mushroom and Ginger crops in context to North East region” was successfully organised by the Department of Horticulture on November 23 and 24 at the College of Horticulture & Forestry auditorium, Pasighat. There was an overwhelming participation of over a hundred progressive farmers and various self help groups from East Siang, nearby district and neighbouring state of Assam.
The training started with welcome address by the DHO AR Ering while the Key Note address was presented by the Director Horticulture Ngawang Lobsang. The Director briefed about the importance of conducting such workshop program frequently to establish communication between farmers, extension workers and scientist in the field of horticulture.
Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering while appreciating the department for conducting such workshops also highlighted about potential of horticulture sector due to presence of tropical, subtropical and temperate climate in the state. He also emphasised on importance of dignity of labour and commercialization of horticulture in the state.
Guest of honour Somnath Roy Chowdhury, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Apex University, Pasighat, stressed on importance of value addition of these crops which can change the economic status of our farmers.
Special Guest Dr SM Hussain, Head of KVK East Siang, spoke about importance of and potential of Arecanut, Mushroom and Ginger crops in the region for sustainable farming and area expansion.
In the technical session resource persons, Dr. Daya Ram, Consultant Mushroom, Dr. Rajendra Prasad university CAU, Samastipur, Bihar, Dr. P Raja, Prof, Department of Plant Pathology, CHF, CAU, Pasighat and Dr. RC Shakywar, Assoc Prof, Department of Plant Pathology CHF, CAU Pasighat delivered on various topic on production technology, spawn production and post-harvest handling of mushrooms. Dr. LS Singh, Senior Scientist, CPCRI, Kahikuchi, Assam and Dr. Barun Singh, Assoc Prof, Department of Fruit science, CHF, CAU Pasighat gave detailed presentation on commercial production technology of Arecanut crop. Dr. DM Barman, Deputy Director, Spice Board Guwahati and Shri Biju Pariyar, Additional Director, Department of Horticulture, Govt. of Sikkim guided the participants on advance production technology and recent approaches in post-harvest-handling/value addition of ginger crop.
The two day program was also attended by extension functionaries from different districts of the state including Oyin Tayeng, SDHO Pasighat, Nuka Dai, HDO Bilat, Dr. Aido Taloh, HDO Ruksin and Bini Tagom, HMO Mebo attended the program.
