ITANAGAR, Nov 7: Yatok Mra Nilo, the sister of the missing Everest climber Tapi Mra, has urged the state government to immediately release  the reimbursement funds that have been pending under the Director of Sports & Youth Affairs. The funds amounting to over one crore rupees was sanctioned by the state government to support Tapi Mra's family.
Speaking to the reporters at the press club today, Nilo highlighted that while the concerned department had initially deposited 20 lakhs in the account of mountaineer Tagit Sorang, who led the search operation for Tapi Mra, the remaining amount is yet to be disbursed. She emphasized the urgency of releasing the pending reimbursement funds without further delay.
Nilo also reassured the Puroik community, who played a significant role in developing the search operation route but have not yet been compensated for their labour. She promised that they would be paid for their efforts, urging that the pending reimbursement fund be released as soon as possible.
Further, she questioned the reasons behind the delay in taking action on resolutions made during a meeting with the Chief Secretary on May 18, 2023. During that meeting, government representatives had committed to addressing the financial requirements of the search operation, asserted Nilo.
She also expressed concern about the state government's failure to fulfill most of the demands put forth by the family of Tapi Mra and his assistant Niku Dao. These demands included efforts to locate the missing climbers, the issuance of an official missing report by the concerned department, and contacting the Government of India for information from the Chinese counterpart regarding the duo's disappearance. The family also requested that the search operations be continued for seven years under Nilo's supervision until any clue is found.
Tapi Mra and Niku Dao went missing on August 17, 2022, while attempting to scale Mt. Khyarii Satam in East Kameng district. Despite extensive efforts by the Indian Army, the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, and relatives, the climbers remain untraceable. Nilo's appeal seeks to ensure that the promised financial support is provided and that the government fulfills its commitments regarding the missing climbers.
