NAHARLAGUN, Sep 27: Mayor IMC, Tamme Phassang expressed strong resentment over the prolong delay in the construction of the flyover on National Highway Package-B and urged the executing agency to either expedite the work or relinquish the project. The Mayor’s comments came during a media interaction where he highlighted the concerns of the local community.
Phassang criticized the construction company's slow progress, emphasizing the safety hazards posed by unattended large pits and debris left at the site. "The ongoing delay is not only creating inconveniences for commuters but also poses serious risks to public safety and property," he stated. Numerous complaints have been raised by residents about the hazardous conditions, including the difficulty in parking and the potential dangers to both human life, animals and properties.
The Mayor issued a stern warning to the construction company, demanding action within seven days, failing which he warned that the public may be forced to take drastic measures. He also called on the nodal department to involve local residents and ward heads in coordinating meetings to address grievances and offer suggestions for smoother project execution.
In addition, Phassang also expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in reconstructing the Naharlagun Daily Market, which was destroyed by fire in 2022, affecting around 700 shops. Although the government allocated a new project for small vegetable vendors, progress has been disappointingly slow. The Mayor urged swift action to ensure the timely completion of the project for the benefit of the vendors and the local economy.
