LONGDING, Aug 24: In a tragic and shocking incident in Longding, a 35-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and five-month-old child in the early hours of Saturday. The accused, identified as Gangnam Gangsa, originally from Kanu Village under Wakka Circle, committed the crime at his residence in Lower School Colony, Longding.
Superintendent of Police Longding, Dekio Gumja informed that the victims, Ngamjin Gangsa (32) and Pagang Gangsa (5 month old), were found dead with blood stains when police arrived at the scene. Accused Gangnam Gangsa was reportedly attempting to flee the scene with his two other children, aged 5 and 6, at the time of the police's arrival.
The police have arrested Gangnam Gangsa and registered a case under Longding PS Case No. 40/24, under Section 103 of BNS. The investigation is currently ongoing, with no clear motive for the crime established yet, the mental health of the accused may not be stable, which could have played a role in the incident as he failed to respond properly during the interrogation. Relatives of the accused have been contacted for further information, added the SP.
Earlier, the accused reportedly circulated a photo of the crime scene in a WhatsApp group, seemingly acknowledging his actions in the crime. The unfortunate and disturbing messages in the WhatsApp group have raised concern among the local denizens, so members informed the local police about the incident. The two surviving children are currently in the care of the Longding Child Welfare Committee and are said to be safe.
The police have also recovered the weapons used in the crime, a local machete and a spade, according to the Superintendent of Police.
