LIKABALI, Sep 14: A tragic accident claimed the life of a 52-year-old man, Rigo Riba, and left his seven-year-old grandchild injured after their vehicle was struck by a train while crossing the tracks in the Assam -Arunachal boundary near Lower Siang district. The incident occurred at Pale near Dimow around 3:50 pm , according to officials.
Riba, a sub-inspector of the Indian Reserve Battalion stationed in Pasighat, East Siang district, was reportedly en route to his native village when the fatal crash happened. The vehicle was hit by the Murkongselek-Tezpur special train, which was heading toward Dekargaon in Assam’s Tezpur. The impact was so severe that the car was dragged for nearly a kilometer, resulting in Riba’s immediate death.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Ganesh Hazarika of the Government Railway Police (GRP) provided further details, confirming that Riba’s grandchild, who was also in the vehicle, sustained injuries in the accident. The injured minor was promptly transported to Dibrugarh, Assam, for urgent medical treatment.
This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of the collision, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the accident. (with input from PTI)
