ITANAGAR, Sep 19: The body of a young man was found in a public restroom at a petrol pump in the Chandranagar area of the capital. The deceased has been identified as Kabak Nyokum, aged 25, originally from Boasumla village, Kamle district.
The matter came to light when the restroom remained locked for an unusual amount of time. Concerned individuals alerted the authorities at approximately 9:20 AM. Upon arrival, police forced open the door and found the lifeless body on the floor.
A used syringe, an empty vial, and a mobile phone were found at the scene. Initial observations by the investigating officers point to a suspected drug overdose, as fresh injection marks were discovered on the deceased's right wrist. Signs of rigor mortis were present, indicating that the death likely occurred hours before the body was discovered.
Kabak Nyokum, who had a history of drug addiction, had recently been discharged from the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) just a day prior after completing a two-week de-addiction program. No foul play is suspected by the family.
The police have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case, and further investigation is being led by Sub-Inspector S.K. Jha. The body has been handed over to the family without post-mortem examination, as directed by the Executive Magistrate, stated a release from SP-ICR.
