MAHADEVPUR, Aug 22: MLA -Lekang, Likha Soni has taken decisive action to halt illegal sand mining operations after receiving a complaint from concerned villagers in the Murticamp village area . The villagers reported unauthorized sand extraction activities that were causing significant environmental damage and threatening the local ecosystem.
Responding promptly to the complaint, MLA Soni personally intervened, mobilizing local authorities to investigate the issue and enforce a stop to the illegal activities. It was informed by the locals that some unknown people were engaged in unauthorized mining of soil & land in the area. The said area is close to the embankment to protect the area from flood. When inquired it was divulged that the said area belongs to Forest department, added the MLA.
While directing the people not to indulged in such illegal activities which is a threat to the villages nearby, the MLA has assured to seek assistance from the government to make proper embankment as well as to provide saplings of Bamboo to protect the area from soil erosion.
This intervention highlights ongoing challenges in regulating natural resource extraction and underscores the importance of vigilant governance to protect the environment and the livelihoods of local residents. MLA Soni has vowed to continue monitoring the situation and ensure that those responsible for the illegal mining are held accountable.
