Itanagar, Jul 1: Due to incessant rainfall in Capital Itanagar over the past few days, reports of road blockages, landslides, and mudslides have emerged from various locations across the city.
The District Administration has been on its toes and has engaged men and machineries to clear blockades.
DDMO Moromi Dodum Sonam reported that at Hill Top Colony, Itanagar, one kutcha house was partially damaged by a landslide, and another was fully destroyed near the Saturday Market in Chimpu. In Nirjuli Bichum Yogin village, a kutcha house was completely ruined. Additionally, one kutcha house at Pappunallah was partially damaged, while another was fully destroyed at Damsite Naharlagun.
In Division IV, a fabrication shop and a kutcha house, which included a timber shop, meat shop, and car wash, were completely damaged. Around 20 houses were reported to be inundated with water in the Nirjuli area.
Landslides have been reported from various locations, including Pachin Colony Road near Church Secretary School, Lobi Road (which has been blocked), 6 Kilo to Second Coming Prayer Centre, Hilltop 4th IRBN Road, the road near NES Secretariat, the road to PS Konko (Chimpu), Batt Road near GUPS, Division IV to Senki View Road, Niya Colony Road, 2 Lane (LHS) Road, and the substation near DN College.
DDMO also informed  about bamboo grove slide at Gompa Road and that electricity supply to Pachin Colony has been damaged. A four-wheeler was buried under debris in Division IV due to a mudslide.
EAC Itanagar Takam Nicholas reported that two individuals have been relocated to a relief camp at GUPS ESS Sector Itanagar. All necessary arrangements for their safe stay, including food and potable water, have been made. Doctors are on call to handle any emergencies at the relief camps.
DC Capital Shweta Nagarkoti Mehta has urged all residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety. She appealed to those residing in vulnerable areas to move to safer locations or designated relief camps and to secure their properties to avoid potential damage. Alerts and advisories have been issued repeatedly in this regard. The DC has also ordered the closure of all schools, including primary, pre-primary, upper primary, high schools, and higher secondary schools, in Capital Itanagar for five days from July 2 to 6, for the safety of the students.
According to the IMD report, rainfall is expected to continue over the next few days. The District Administration has appealed to everyone to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
District Administration Capital Itanagar is actively engaged in road maintenance, clearing drains, and restoring blockages. All concerned departments are diligently performing their duties. The Water Resources Department (WRD) is monitoring water levels to ensure public safety, the PWD is working to clear and restore road blockages and drain clearance, and the Capital Electrical Division is undertaking precautionary measures at substations. The team of DFO (SF) Itanagar is pruning trees that pose a threat and felling trees at vulnerable locations.
To raise awareness among citizens, regular public announcements are being made in vulnerable locations to inform residents of potential risks.
