ITANAGAR, Aug 18: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union - Women Wing (AAPSU-WW) organized a solemn candlelight vigil in Itanagar on Sunday, expressing solidarity with the family of the 31-year-old doctor who was recently brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
The event was attended by various student communities, including Miss Arunachal Tadu Lunia, members from Youth Mission for Clean River -AP, and other like-minded youths.
During the vigil, the President of AAPSU-WW, Ponung Darang, addressed the media, demanding exemplary punishment for those involved in the heinous crime. "We have faith in the West Bengal government led by Mamata Banerjee and the Indian Judiciary, that stringent punishment will be meted out to the accused within a stipulated time frame," she said.
She further expressed Arunachal's strong support for the victim's family and the people of Kolkata, condemning the brutal crime. "India has recently celebrated its 78th Independence Day, but our women are still not safe in this country," Darang added, highlighting the ongoing struggle for women's safety.
Darang also announced that they will soon resume their district-level educational tours, focusing on creating awareness about women's safety, including issues like "Good Touch & Bad Touch for children ."
The candlelight vigil served as a powerful reminder of the need for justice and the continued fight against violence towards women in India, she added.
