PASIGHAT, Oct 14: One year vocational training (Weaving, Cane & Bamboo) to impart traditional skills among inmates of the Juvenile Special Home (JSH) at the 2-Mile area, Pasighat began today. The programme is an initiative of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, aimed to provide livelihood and income generation opportunities to the trainees. The yearlong training program is being conducted by the Textile & Handicrafts department in collaboration with the District Administration, Police and Woman & Child Development departments. 
The training program was formally inaugurated by the East Siang Deputy Commissioner, Tayi Taggu in presence of SP Sumit Kr. Jha, DD (ICDS) Machi Gao, DDI Matsam Jamoh, ADTH Libang Perme and others.
Advising the inmates to realize their mistakes and not to repeat it, the DC asked the trainees to maintain discipline and be attentive during the learning process and use the skills to upgrade their livelihood. He further said that during the yearlong training the inmates would be aligned with the standardized skills to enhance their skills, and technical knowledge so that they could design and ideate new products independently.
Traditional techniques of craft and artwork were a significant part of Arunachal’s rich heritage and there was an urgent need to preserve these skills. Stating that it was observed that the heritage and traditional skill clusters require skilled artisans to meet the demand for traditional crafts in the state and outside, he appreciated the Textile and Handicrafts department for organizing the training, Taggu opined that such training would help the youths in career building and enable them to prove themselves as worthy citizens of the nation.
SP Sumit Kumar Jha advised the inmates to devotedly learn the skill in weaving and making various handicrafts items to make their mind healthy and strong. He said that the facility was not a jail but “Home” wherein the inmates would are treated with love and care. The SP also encouraged them to become “Acchha Aadmi” again. He also informed that products made by the inmates would be shown to their parents and relatives.
DD (ICDS) Machi Gao also advised the inmates to sincerely learn weaving and making handicraft items which could also be sold during important functions like Republic Day and Independence Day exhibitions.
