ITANAGAR, Oct 31: In the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’, the foundation day of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh was celebrated at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar on Tuesday. Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.) and First Lady of the State Anagha Parnaik, along with special invitees, including a student delegation from the Union Territory of Ladakh and the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh serving in the state participated in the celebration.
Parnaik greeted the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and extended good wishes on behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh. He recalled the history of the two Union Territories and war heroes of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
Sharing his experience and observation, the Governor, who served in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh during his service days, especially as Northern Army Commander, said that there are lots of similarities between these Union Territories with Arunachal Pradesh. In addition to being sensitive border Union Territories, they are rich in culture, traditions and heritage. Some communities’ belief in the Sun God similar to Donyi Polo, unique and exceptional handicrafts and the people are folk arts enthusiasts and peace loving. Abrogation of Article 370 has facilitated in recuperating peace and tranquility in both the regions, he said.
The Governor said that the celebration of Foundation Days of other States and Union Territories provides an opportunity for sharing opinions and experiences of the people serving in Arunachal Pradesh. He said that it also promotes brotherhood and goodwill amongst the people.
Highlight of the programme was the cultural presentation by the young ambassadors from Ladakh, Motup Dolma, Salzes Dolma, Stanzin Spaldon, Stanzin Dolker and Stanzin Yudron. Led by Tsering Dolkar, escorting teacher, they performed live Ladakhi music, folk song and famed Jabro Folk Dance. They expressed gratitude to the Governor and First Lady of the State for extending warm hospitality. In the same breath they also thanked the Lt. Governor of Ladakh, Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) for giving them the opportunity to visit the eastern most State of Arunachal Pradesh.
The Governor and First Lady of the State interacted with the delegation from the Union Territory of Ladakh and the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh serving in Arunachal Pradesh over a high tea on the occasion.
