ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The city is all set to mark the 78th Independence Day with an array of vibrant and diverse events at Indira Gandhi Park on August 15 next.
While speaking to the media, Deputy Commissioner Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), Talo Potom, announced that this year's celebration is poised to be grander and more inclusive than ever before.
In an effort to make the occasion memorable, the administration has introduced several new elements. Among the highlights is an aerial show featuring a paramotoring team from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) - Dirang, alongside a captivating drone show on “Medicine from the Sky”. Additionally, the event will showcase tableaus from various departments and cultural performances, with over 500 students participating, informed the DC.
This year’s parade will feature 30 contingents, 11 of which will be from uniformed personnel, while the remainder will include students and other organizations. Notably, a female contingent from Nagaland will also be taking part in the march past, adding a unique touch to the proceedings, said DC Talo Potom.
He also added that, in a bid to accommodate the public, the security agencies have been requested to minimize checks to ensure smooth access. The venue, with a capacity of around 5,000, is expected to be filled to the brim with attendees.
Superintendent of Police-ICR, Rohit Rajbir Singh (IPS), detailed the security arrangements, emphasizing a three-layer security protocol covering the rostrum, entry gates, and various city locations.
While the public will undergo security checks, however this time it will be concentrated at a single point to reduce inconvenience.
Meanwhile,both the DC and SP have urged the public to join in the celebrations, ensuring that all measures have been taken to make the event secure and enjoyable for everyone.
