ITANAGAR, Jul 8: The Itanagar Police today apprehended Human Rights and Anti-Dam Activists Adv Ebo Mili and one Dugge Apang, Convenor of the Siang Indigenous Farmers’ Forum as a measure to ensure public safety ahead of an upcoming public meeting involving Chief Minister Pema Khandu with Union Minister Power, Manohar Lal Khattar.
According to SP, ICR Rohit Rajbir Singh (IPS), stated that concerns were raised on July 7 regarding potential disruptions by Ebo Mili, and members of the Siang Indigenous Farmers’ Forum. The disturbances were anticipated during the scheduled public gathering on July 9 next.
"As a precautionary measure, Ebo Mili was apprehended for questioning at 0850 hours on July 8, 2024. Subsequently, Dugge Apang, Convenor of the Siang Indigenous Farmers’ Forum, was also apprehended at Niti Vihar Police Station at 1200 hours the same day," SP Rohit Rajbir Singh stated in a press statement.
To maintain public order and prevent any untoward incidents, the police sought permission from the Executive Magistrate, Itanagar, to bind down both individuals under Section 128 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
"No arrests were made during this operation. Both Ebo Mili and Dugge Apang were released after fulfilling legal formalities," SP Rohit Rajbir Singh clarified, emphasizing that these measures were necessary to ensure the smooth conduct of the public meeting and to safeguard public safety.
