GREATER NOIDA, Jun 8 : The third All India Mayors and RWA Summit concluded today at the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida with a strong consensus on banning groundwater extraction and open garbage dumping.
The summit was organized by CoRWA-UP and the Flat Owners Federation Ghaziabad as part of the World Environment Expo, which featured 200 stalls from various companies, institutions, and units. The event included conferences on biofuel and solar energy.
The summit was inaugurated by Rajan Chhibber, Advisor to the Government of Andhra Pradesh, who emphasized that every Resident Welfare Association (RWA) acts as an elementary school of democracy. He released the "RWA Mission Statement" during the inauguration.
Tame Phasang, Mayor of Itanagar, presided over the function, highlighting that while Arunachal Pradesh currently does not face significant issues related to groundwater exploitation and garbage disposal, but acknowledges the need for future planning. He committed to preventing open garbage dumping and suggested inviting national CoRWA members for comprehensive municipal service discussions in Itanagar.
Itanagar Councillor, Lokam Anand, expressed interest in implementing sanitary landfills, and Municipal Committee Chief from Ladakh, Stanzin Rabgais, shared their waste disposal advancements.
During the summit, the house also unanimously adopted several key resolutions, including, banning groundwater extraction in commercial and industrial institutions, with mandatory metering where necessary, Promoting rainwater harvesting through incentives, Engaging civil society in surprise checks of effluent treatment plants in commercial and industrial institutions, Implementing sanitary landfills instead of open garbage dumping, and Introducing incentive schemes for separating wet and dry waste at home, such as house tax discounts.
Among others, the Mayor of Prayagraj, Ganesh Kesarwani, Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation's Additional City Commissioner, Avnindra Kumar, Col Tejendra Pal Tyagi, Chief Patron of CoRWA-UP and Chairman of Flat Owners Federation, Kanpur Mayor, Parmila Pandey, Gorakhpur Mayor, Manglesh Kumar Srivastava, Raj Kumar Tyagi, President of Flat Owners Federation, Rajnagar Extension, Ghaziabad, also spoke on the occasion.
