ITANAGAR, Oct 3:  In a significant development for Arunachal Pradesh in air connectivity sector, the first direct flight from the Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar to New Delhi was inaugurated on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.
IndiGo will operate four flights a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays between New Delhi and the capital of Arunachal Pradesh. This new flight connection is set to greatly enhance regional accessibility within the country, offering convenience to both business and leisure travellers with additional flight options.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister of Civil Aviation cum Tourism, Nakap Nalo expressed immense satisfaction at the introduction of this direct air link between Itanagar and New Delhi. He emphasized that this initiative aims to significantly improve domestic connectivity, opening up opportunities for employment, trade, tourism, and overall economic growth in the region.
Nalo, also praised IndiGo's commitment to increase accessibility in the Northeastern region, with connections established in seven out of the eight states.
This enhanced access to Itanagar is expected to boost tourist footfall at popular destinations such as Ita Fort, Jawaharlal Nehru Museum, Namdapha National Park, and Tawang, contributing to the overall development of the region, he added.
Tamme Phassang, Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation, expressed gratitude to IndiGo Airlines and lauded the Modi-led BJP Government's initiative. He encouraged citizens to make the most of this facility for promoting tourism, addressing medical emergencies, and conducting business activities. He also extended an invitation to entrepreneurs and corporators from mainland North India to explore the rich cultural diversity and unique tribal heritage of Arunachal Pradesh.
