NAHARLAGUN, Oct 4: Mayor, Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) Tamme Phassang has expressed deep concern over ongoing delays and alleged irregularities in two significant smart city projects in the Itanagar capital region. The Mayor along with corporators, conducted an inspection of the under-construction Vendors Market and the Multi-Level Car Parking facility at Naharlagun on Wednesday.
The Multi-Level Automated Car Parking project inside the TRIHMS campus is being built with a budget of almost rupees 28 Crore. Phassang expressed his concerns about transparency in awarding the contract to a Korean company, Neuros Intelligent Management System (NIMS). "NIMS is basically a company that makes compressor machines and is now executing an elevator parking project in Naharlagun. This poses a serious threat to the lives of people who will park their cars here in the future," said the Mayor while questioning the experience of the company in constructing Automated Car Parking system.
Phassang stated that the residents continue to face traffic problems due to the construction, and the local corporator has taken serious action by issuing a stay on the construction activities in response to complaints from Ward no.17 residents.
The IMC has now served a notice to maintain the status quo on the project until the executing agency, NIMS, submits a report detailing the parameters of the multi-level parking system and its associated costs.
This fully automated AI-based Smart Parking System at TRIHMS is part of the Smart City Mission and is executed under an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Contract mode with a completion target of December 2023 and a cost of 27.49 Crore.
The Mayor further raised concerns about the Vendors Market G5 building's progress near the Police station, Naharlagun which is approaching its deadline. He highlighted that the delay is adversely affecting the livelihoods of many local vegetable sellers, who depend on this market for their daily income.
"Last year, a devastating fire incident on October 25, resulted in the destruction of over 700 shops at the Daily Market Naharlagun, which was the primary source of income for numerous local women vendors. They are still waiting for this project to be completed," stated the Mayor while emphasizing the urgency of completing the project to prevent further financial hardship for these vulnerable individuals.
