Itanagar, Jul 17: An impactful awareness program on drug abuse, its ill effects, and life after recovery was held at Don Bosco School, Nonpu, Doimukh. The event was organized by the Papumpare District Police, led by SP Taru Gusar, IPS, under the guidance of Home Minister Mama Natung, and DGP Anand Mohan, IPS, in collaboration with Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, Nirjuli.
Natung underscored the devastating impact of drug abuse on individuals, families, and communities. He emphasized the critical need for collective efforts to combat this menace and highlighted the role of awareness programs in educating the public, especially the youth, about the dangers of drug addiction. Natung praised the Papumpare District Police for organizing such an important event and pledged his full support to their ongoing efforts to fight drug abuse.
Addressing the gathering, Advisor to Home Minister, Mutchu Mithi, delivered an inspiring speech with personal touch. He began by recalling his own experiences with addiction during his youth, candidly sharing how he was drawn towards substance abuse but managed to overcome it with determination and support. His story served as a powerful motivation for drug survivors in the audience, showing them that it is possible to defeat addiction and reclaim one's life.
Speaking on the occasion, DGP, Anand Mohan, IPS, provided a detailed analysis of the drug abuse situation, both globally and within the state. He explained the strategic vulnerabilities of India due to its proximity to the Golden Triangle and Golden Crescent regions infamous for drug trafficking. He linked the fight against drug abuse to the historical struggle for independence, drawing parallels between the revolt of 1857 and the current battle against drugs. This comparison served to galvanize the audience, emphasizing the need for collective action and unwavering determination.
The program featured a one-act play by the drug survivors, sharing their testimonies which poignantly depicted their struggles and triumphs over addiction. A documentary showcasing the harrowing life of drug abusers was also screened, providing a stark reminder of the realities of drug addiction.
Among others, MLA 14th Doimukh Constituency, Nabam Vivek, DIGP ICR Vijay Kumar IPS, DC Papumpare Jiken Bomjen APCS, and ZPC Nabam Yakum, also attended the event.
