ITANAGAR, Nov 8: RTI activist Payi Gyadi, today informed that the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed against irregularities particularly in the land scam at the National Institute of Technology, Jote, has been accepted by the High Court, Itanagar branch. The court has subsequently issued a notice to the concerned authorities and granted an extension for the next hearing date.
Gyadi stated that the High Court extended the hearing date following an appeal from the Yupia district administration. Addressing the media at the press club on Wednesday, Gyadi explained that the primary reason for filing the PIL was to protect the land allotted for the NIT from encroachment. He revealed that around 301 acres of land was allotted for the institute but surprisingly around 200 acres is missing.
Gyadi further appealed to the Court to expedite the trial process to ensure that the students receive the required facilities as per the norms and that those involved in the land scam are penalized appropriately.
Meanwhile, the RTI activist also demanded the appointment of a permanent Director for the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jote, alleging that the appointment of the current Director (In charge), Dr. Ram Prakash, and other officials is illegal and involves corruption.
Gyadi asserted that the appointment of the present NIT Director violates the recruitment rules. As per the NIT's recruitment rules, a professor should have 10-13 years of teaching experience in central and state government universities. The present NIT Director has only 3 years of experience, which falls short of the required qualification. Additionally, the director appointed an Associate Professor as Registrar (In charge), Dean of Academic Affairs, and extended the tenure of an Associate Professor as Dean of Academics by rejecting the applications of senior Associate Professors and Professors of the NIT.
Moreover, the interview for the permanent Director for the NIT was conducted six months ago. However, the result of the interview has not been declared yet, clearly indicating the involvement of power and politics, Gyadi added.
The current Director (In charge), Dr. Ram Prakash couldn’t be contacted for his comment on the allegations.
