NAHARLAGUN, Jun 24: The newly appointed Health and Family Welfare Minister, Biyuram Wahge, inaugurated the new ICU and Paediatric Care Unit at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS) today.
During his visit, Wahge was accompanied by Commissioner Health Pawan Kumar Sain, Secretary Health Krishna Kumar Singh, Marge Sora, Mission Director of the National Health Mission, and Dr. Moji Jini, Director of Health. The team inspected various hospital blocks, the OPD building, ICU wards, children’s wards, the blood centre, and other ongoing infrastructure projects at the TRIHMS campus.
Following the inspection, a round table meeting was held with doctors, directors, and officers of the institute. The Health Minister was briefed on the ongoing MD/MS courses and seat availability at the college. Completed infrastructure at TRIHMS includes hospital blocks 1 and 2, a badminton court, a research block, women and residents’ hostels, a stadium, and a water treatment plant. Nearly completed projects include the academic block, men's hostel, auditorium, nursing students' hostel, non-faculty building, nursing college academic block, Rural Health Training Centre Chiputa, and faculty accommodation which has not yet started.
Minister Wahge emphasized the importance of upgrading TRIHMS to meet the rising demand for healthcare services in the state. "The current infrastructure needs considerable enhancements. We have almost all the facilities with the best infrastructure and modern equipment, along with a qualified team of doctors and nurses. I appeal to the residents of the state to avail healthcare services and treatment at TRIHMS instead of seeking care in Delhi or Guwahati. Only if referred should they opt for the latter," Wahge stated.
He also highlighted the improvements made to district hospitals post COVID-19 pandemic and committed to conducting ground surveys to address the needs of primary and community health centres. Wahge assured that efforts are underway to bring comprehensive cancer treatment facilities to the state. "BJP is a party that brings change and development. I appeal to everyone to reduce alcohol consumption and abstain from drug use, which is hazardous to health," he added.
