NIRJULI, Jun 11: A two-phase hackathon focused on 3D printing is being organized across the Northeastern states, offering a platform for students, entrepreneurs, and start-ups to transform their ideas into reality and win attractive rewards. The first phase of the event kicked off today at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) in Nirjuli, Itanagar, where participants showcased their innovative 3D printing ideas and explored solutions using this cutting-edge technology. The hackathon not only tested the creativity of the participants but also provided a competitive environment to demonstrate their problem-solving skills.
In this initial phase, twelve teams participated, with a total attendance of 80 people. Three winning teams from today's event were awarded a prize of Rs 11,000 each.
These winners will receive expert counseling and guidance to refine their ideas in preparation for the second round.
The event was graced by the presence of several esteemed academicians and professionals, including Prof. Narendranath S (Director NERIST), Prof. M. Chandrasekharan, Prof. Sarsing Gao, Prof. P. R. Gajurel, Prof. Sandeep Singh, Prof. Tirupurari Sharan, Dr. Madhusudan Mishra, Dr. Santosh Tamang, Dr. Yamem Tamut, Prof. Varun Sharma from IIT Roorkee, Mr. Abishek Dhar (Associate Director, The Indus Entrepreneurs - TiE), Mr. Niraj Pandey (Head of Logistics & Events, TiE), Mr. Manish Srivastava, and Mr. Vinod.
The hackathon is being conducted by Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited (AMTRON), Guwahati, and aims to commercialize many of the ideas generated, thereby creating employment opportunities for students, youth, and women entrepreneurs from the Northeast.
The second phase of the hackathon will be an all-India level event, where participants will have the opportunity to convert their winning concepts into tangible 3D printed models. The team with the most innovative and attractive 3D printed creation will be awarded Rs 50 lakh in cash and other prizes. Additionally, the winning idea will be implemented in the Northeast with support from partner educational institutions.
This initiative is part of a broader collaboration with other government agencies located in Tech City, Guwahati, under the Digital Design and Third Printing Centre of Excellence in the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) project. This step is expected to bolster the technological landscape in the region and provide a significant boost to local innovation and entrepreneurship, stated a release.
