Itanagar, Aug 18: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General K.T. Parnaik (Retd.) and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have conveyed best wishes on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the festival of Rakhi celebrating the love, respect and the eternal bond between brothers and sisters.
In his message, the Governor said that Raksha Bandhan represents the 'Bond of Protection'—a pledge by brothers to protect their sisters and, more broadly, a commitment by men to safeguard women with a sense of brotherhood. This festival embodies affection and mutual trust, and fosters emotional unity, empathy, and cooperation among people. From the State perspective, Raksha Bandhan enhances the bonds between all communities and groups, supporting our collective efforts to work for each other's well-being, he said while expressing his hope that this cherished tradition of celebrating the sacred bond between brothers and sisters will continue to strengthen the affection among siblings and spread love, harmony, and peace throughout society.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu in a message this evening said, “Rakshabandhan is a pious festival when sisters pray for their brothers’ health and prosperity and tie rakhi around their wrists and brothers promise to take care of them throughout the lifetime.”
The festival is celebrated in the month of Shravan - generally in August. This year, it falls on August 19.
“In context of current times when we are witnessing crime and atrocities against women in the society, the significance of rakshabandhan and its universal message grows in leaps and bounds. This rakshabandhan, let’s live up to the expectations of our sisters and create a world where they are safe, happy and equal contributors in all spheres of life. Let’s not fail our sisters. Happy rakshabandhan!” Khandu added.
