Itanagar, Apr 3: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik (Retd.) graced the final of Lohit Football Premier League as chief guest at Tezu in Lohit District on Wednesday. He presented the winner’s trophy to Tafragam Football Club Team and runner up trophy to Pomliang Football Club Team.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor commended the 2 Mountain Division (Dao Division) of Indian Army for their endeavour to strengthen the bonhomie between the local people and the armed forces. He exhorted the Army Division to motivate the local youth to excel in their field of games and sports.
The Governor, while appreciating the Dao Division for organising the first ever premier league in the State, said that other district administrations and Army Divisions must emulate such excellent conduct of sporting events in different parts of the State. He said that such events will promote leaders, camaraderie and spirit of competitiveness amongst the youth.
The Governor advised the armed forces to take up more welfare activities, which will instil a sense of security amongst the common citizens in the border areas. He also urged them to continue the assistance they provide to the villagers in the remote areas.
The Governor appreciated the troops for the physical and martial art displays on the occasion. He said that such activities will encourage local youth to join the Indian Armed Forces.
The Governor emphasised that Indian Army Units in the State must train abled youth to join the armed forces. He advised the officers to provide pre-recruitment training to the selected youth.
The General Officer Commanding, 3 Corps, Lt General Harjeet Singh Sahi, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, General Officer Commanding, 2 Mountain Division, Major General VS Deshpande, Lohit Deputy Commissioner Shri Shashvat Saurabh and SSP Shri Tumme Amo were present on the occasion amongst others.
The Lohit Football Premier League was organised by the 2 Mountain Division (Dao Division) of Indian Army as part of Operation Sadbhavana, with an objective to enhance collaboration and mutual understanding between the local population and the security forces in the State.
32 teams from the districts of Anjaw, Lohit, Namsai and Lower Dibang Valley participated in the tournament. The event aims to promote fitness, camaraderie and resilience among the youth of the region.
The finale of the tournament witnessed outstanding Pipe Band Display, PT Display, Unarmed Combat and Gatka Displays and Chandra-Kaleri Fusing presentation along with tribal dances by Mishmi and Khamti cultural troupes.
