Yupia, Oct 12: The Papum Pare District Administration and WCD Department in collaboration with several line departments and schools celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child from October 2-11, in the district.
Four-time national level Gold medalist in Taekwando, Amini Laa was appointed as the BBBP champion/Ambassador for Papumpare district for the year 2024 -25.
The 10-day special celebration included cleanliness drive at Naharlagun Railway Station, Literary Competition at Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyala, Yupia, Health Camp at Child Care Institute, Naharlagun, Sports Activities at Govt. UPS, Borum, Awareness on Legal Rights of women and children at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Nirjuli, Health &  
Nutrition Education and Folk Tales Writing Competition at Govt. Higher Secondary School, Itanagar. 
The motto of the celebration was to generate awareness on gender equality and the provisions for girls to equal access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care and protection from discrimination, violence against women and forced child marriage.
As a culminating event for the 10-day special program on Saturday, the team from District ICDS Cell Yupia and DHEW led by Jaya Taba, Deputy Director, ICDS visited the maternity ward of TRIHMS and distributed gift hampers containing child care items, fruits and also imparted awareness on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojna and Sukanya Samridhi Yojana schemes to the mothers.
