NAMSAI, Aug 18: In the early hours of Sunday, Namsai witnessed a shocking incident as four under trial prisoners (UTPs) executed a daring escape from the Namsai Judicial Jail. The escape occurred after the prisoners launched a brutal assault on the on-duty sentry, leaving him seriously injured.
Sources informed that the injured sentry was attacked with an iron rod during the escape attempt and was immediately rushed to the District Hospital Namsai for emergency medical treatment. His condition remains critical.
The four UTP escapees have been identified as Mineswar Dihingya, facing charges under MPR PS Case No. 08/2021 under Sections 392 and 448, Gopal Munda charged under NMS PS Case No. 29/2023 for an offense under Section 376 IPC and the POCSO Act.,Robin Sorin: Charged under NMS PS Case No. 32/2023 for offenses under Sections 302/201 IPC and Arjun Kandha: Charged under NMS PS Case No. 42/2024 under Section 363 IPC.
Authorities have launched an intensive manhunt to apprehend the escaped prisoners. Security measures in and around the district have been heightened, and checkpoints have been established to prevent the fugitives from fleeing the area. Local residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
The incident occurred, when state Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, and Health & Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge were in the town to attend the inaugural ceremony of 11th Li-Ning Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Badminton Championship 2024.
