ITANAGAR, May 11: The Arunachal RTI Activist Youth Forum (ARTIAYF) has levelled serious allegations against the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Dibang Forest Division, Roing, claiming large-scale irregularities and misuse of government funds under afforestation schemes.
Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club, ARTIAYF President announced that the forum has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against the DFO, citing discrepancies in the implementation of schemes funded through the Compensatory Afforestation (CA) and Net Present Value (NPV) mechanisms. The total funds involved reportedly amount to Rs. 452.71 lakh under CA and Rs. 426.39 lakh under NPV for the 2023–24 financial year.
“Despite records showing that the funds were utilized, our site visit revealed no signs of plantation or maintenance activities on the ground,” the President stated. “This indicates a serious misuse of public funds.”
He further alleged that while the DFO’s office did provide some documents in response to a Right to Information (RTI) query, the provided papers lacked authenticity. Additionally, several key documents remain undisclosed, raising further suspicions.
The forum has demanded an immediate and thorough investigation into the matter and urged the authorities to enforce transparency and accountability in the utilization of public funds, particularly in the forest and environment sector.
Despite repeated attempts, the DFO could not be contacted for his comments on the alleged allegations.
