BANDERDEWA, Apr 12: In a significant breakthrough under Operation Dawn 2.0, the Banderdewa Police successfully foiled two interstate drug smuggling attempts in a single day, leading to the arrest of five accused and the seizure of 93.15 grams of suspected heroin.
SP Naharlagun Mihin Gambo informed that the first operation unfolded on April 11 last, when the police, acting on specific intelligence, laid a trap at the Banderdewa Check Gate. A scooter suspected to be carrying narcotics was intercepted, but the rider attempted to flee, abandoning the vehicle. In a desperate bid to escape, he jumped from a 13-feet-high wall and sustained a knee injury before being apprehended by the vigilant police team. The accused was identified as Maku Rangmo, 27, a resident of Bana in East Kameng district.
Following his interrogation, a co-accused, 26-year-old Raja Limbu from Naharlagun, was arrested the same day. Based on the disclosures made by the duo, the police recovered 35 vials containing suspected heroin weighing 46.40 grams, which had been discarded during the chase. A case has been registered under Banderdewa PS Case No. 32/2025, under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act read with Section 3(5) of the BNS, 2023.
Later that night, the Banderdewa Police launched a second operation based on fresh intelligence regarding the transportation of drugs from Assam. A Mahindra Scorpio suspected to be carrying narcotics attempted to flee upon spotting the police. However, a swift and coordinated two-way cut-off led to the vehicle being intercepted at Banderdewa Market. During a thorough search, the police discovered four polythene packets of suspected heroin weighing 46.75 grams concealed within the vehicle.
The occupants of the vehicle were identified as Enamul Hussain, 24, of Chanimari under Jagiroad Police Station in Morigaon district, Enamul Haque, 24, and Ainul Haque, 34, both residents of Mauryadas under Dhing Police Station in Nagaon district, Assam. A case has been registered against them under Banderdewa PS Case No. 33/2025, also under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act read with Section 3(5) of the BNS, 2023.
These operations were led by a dedicated team of officers from Banderdewa Police under the leadership of SDPO Naharlagun Shri Rishi Longdo, Inspector Kipa Hamak, Officer-in-Charge SI S.K. Singh, SI Koj Tada, SI D. Tayum, ASI S.K. Tiwari, ASI Anil Rajbar, HC T. Bomdom, HC T. Haging, Constable R. Tsering, and Constable A. Mishra. The entire effort was executed under the overall supervision of SP Naharlagun Mihin Gambo.
Meanwhile, the SP praised the police team for their swift and decisive action, emphasising their unwavering commitment to curbing the menace of drug trafficking and protecting the youth from falling victim to substance abuse. He lauded the coordination and courage displayed by the officers, calling it a strong message to drug networks operating along the interstate border.
