TEZU, Feb 25:
Much to public euphoria, the lone civilian airport in Arunachal is all set to be made functional soon. In this regard, the first calibration flight test was made for landing of passenger plane here today but unfortunately some technical snag in lighting system foiled the landing despite several attempts. The lighting engineer from Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been directed to rectify and make the system glitch-free by consulting experts.
When asked about the technical fault, an AAI engineer said that Caliber Flight does not land but verifies elevation and angle for landing of the aircraft. ‘This is first phase of test and more tests would be done before landing of passenger plane,’ the engineer disclosed.
Deputy Commissioner Danish Ashraf who has been continuously monitoring the operation expressed hope for early operation of the airport after a first calibration test. The Tezu Airport — the only civilian airport in Arunachal Pradesh — would be made operational soon.
The runway, terminal building and the air traffic control tower of the airport has been completed. The airport, when completed, will have the handling capacity of ATR 72 types of aircrafts.
