BOMDILA, Oct 14: To boost the confidence of girl children, enhance their physical and mental fitness, and prepare them for unforeseen situations, the District Administration of West Kameng, in collaboration with the Department of Education and Sports under the aegis of ISSE: Samagra Siksha, organized a 30-day Self-Defense Training program for elementary girl students called "Rani Laxmibai Atma Raksha Prashikshan."
The event was inaugurated by Minister of Education, Taba Tedir, in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Akriti Sagar, DDSE, administrative officers, HoDs, officials, teachers, and students. During the inauguration, Tedir commended the District Administration and other stakeholders for this initiative and encouraged the girl students to optimum utilisation of such training.
He emphasized that gone are the days when there were barriers for girls. This is a new age, an age of equality, and our girl children are excelling in every field, Tedir said. He gave examples of girl athletes who are bringing laurels to the state at various international and national levels.
National player (Taekwondo) Istha Bagra, along with army personnel, served as expert trainers.
DDSE also placed various departmental grievances before the minister. (DIPRO)
