ITANAGAR, Sep 28: In light of the poor performance of students in the Board Examinations, the State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) Arunachal Pradesh launched a month-long series of teacher training aimed at enhancing the results of Classes X and XII. This series of trainings will run from September 28 to October 31 next and will cover Maths, Science, Social Science and English in Class X as well as Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Class XII.
The training series was launched by the Minister of Education, Er. Taba Tedir in the presence of Amjad Tak, Commissioner Education, Pige Ligu, Secretary Education, other senior officials from the Education Department as well as resource persons from Reach to Teach Foundation who will be carrying out the trainings over the month.
Following the low performance of students in the Board Examinations, an urgent need was identified to enhance the pass percentage. To this end, SCERT Arunachal Pradesh and Reach to Teach Foundation have collaboratively developed a comprehensive plan to bring up the pass percentage of students in the Board Exams. The trainings will complement the Exams and Beyond Toolkit that was launched by the Minister of Education in October last year. Apart from covering details about the examination blueprint and marking schemes, the training will also address classroom management strategies to ensure teachers are able to get the maximum benefit out of the limited time left before the next Board Exams.
Addressing the teachers, Tedir highlighted how the Board Exam results have been consistently low for the past few years (with the exception of the Covid years). He emphasised the need for teachers, students and parents to work together to improve learning outcomes. Tedir also encouraged the teachers to view their students as they would their own children, and teach them with the same care and aspiration.
The Commissioner and the Secretary Education appealed to the teachers to take the training seriously and implement all their learnings in their respective classrooms as well as Districts. The Commissioner also highlighted the possibility of the DDSEs seeking the support of the teachers attending this training to offer guidance to other teachers in their districts.
To ensure sustained support to teachers, a teacher helpline has been set-up where queries and concerns can be addressed by all staff. Additionally, a monthly virtual forum will be arranged with subject experts to address subject-specific queries.
