PASIGHAT, Jul 26: A meeting of District Level Committee of Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was held on Friday under the chairpersonship of East Siang Deputy Commissioner to discuss a comprehensive strategy to counter the menace of drug abuse in East Siang district.
Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu reviewed the implementation of the measures taken and progress achieved to eliminate drug abuse and its peddling in the district. The DC took a detailed appraisal from members of NCORD Committee regarding the present scenario of drug related occurrences, areas of concern, age group of addicts and hot spots of drug abuse.
He also took feedback from the members of the Committee who presented the latest report related to action taken against drug-addiction and drug trafficking in the district. Taggu stressed upon the concerned officers to further intensify IEC activities, connecting communities including sub-divisional, circle and civil society members.
The DC also meticulously reviewed and discussed the functioning of Drug De-addiction Centres and Addiction Treatment Facility Centre (ATFC) and stressed for making them fully functional so that sufferings of the drug- affected individuals is mitigated. He emphasized on ensuring proper counseling and rehabilitation for individuals struggling with addiction.
Superintendent of Police, Dr. Sachin Kumar Singhal apprised the meeting that police personnel were working tirelessly to contain the menace of drugs. Many FIRs were registered and many drug peddlers were arrested and lodged in jails besides seizure of heroin and other contraband substances.
The meeting among others was attended by ASP Pankaj Lamba, DySP Ayup Boko, DMO Dr. Komling Perme.
