PASIGHAT, Oct 17: East Siang today launched a campaign to create awareness on HIV/AIDS among the general public in the district under “Intensified IEC on HIV/AIDS and Integrated Health Campaign”.
Chief Guest MLA T. Darang expressed concern at the rising cases of affected HIV/AIDS patients in the district. “One should not lose sight of the goal to eliminate HIV/AIDS, so it is the time to give awareness to the people and break the chain of infection further despite the increase in cases,” he said. He also acknowledged the efforts of APSAC Society and associate organisations for working tirelessly to make the state a HIV/AIDS free place.
Guest of Honour, Deputy Commissioner T Taggu emphasised the importance of health. He said that NGOs, clan based organisations, community based organisations and all stakeholders must engage themselves in eliminating HIV/AIDS as it is dangerous to humankind. He also added the need for more awareness and sensitisation among the youth.
Project Director APSACS, Dr. Marbom Basar highlighted the data analysis of HIV/AIDS of the district. He stated that 80 percent of HIV/AIDS spread through injective drug users in which below 35 years fall under vulnerable category. To break the chain it is necessary to sensitise people about the disease and also collective effort like district administrative collaborating with every stakeholder is indispensable, he added.
