PASIGHAT, Nov 8: Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS), East Siang branch today organized a one-day symposium on A:bang:its evolution and preservation at the Horticulture and Forestry College auditorium, Pasighat.
Pasighat East MLA Kaling Moyong, Padmashree Mamang Dai and APLS Advisor (Itanagar) Tokong Pertin graced the occasion as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Special Guest respectively on the occasion.
In his address, Chief Guest Moyong lauded the efforts of East Siang APLS President Ponung Ering Angu and her team for organizing the ‘Symposium on Abang’ with a mission to promote and preserve age-old traditional customs, tales, saying, unwritten events etc through Adi folklore “ABANG” to inspire the future generations. It is an integral part of Adi community but due to lack of practice and experts (Miris), the age-old traditional art was gradually eroding due to modernization. The younger generations must know and understand the value of spiritual traditions of Adi community and such interactions and coordination was need of the hour, the MLA opined.
Guest of Honour Padmashree Mamang Dai and Special Guest APLS Advisor (Itanagar) Tokong Pertin while attending the discourse appreciated the efforts of East Siang APLS and encouraged the participants. The duo stressed the need to revive and preserve the age-old culture. DIPRO, Pasighat
