Doimukh, Sep 12: In a significant breakthrough, the Doimukh police apprehended an inter-state drug peddler as part of Operation Dawn on Thursday, following credible intelligence about drug trafficking activities between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Acting on a tip-off, a specialized police team was formed under the supervision of Taru Gusar, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Papumpare (R). The team was led by Radhe Obing, SDPO, Papumpare (R), along with SI Tage Saa, ASI Nur Mustafa Alom, Constable Denwang Lowang, Constable Dorjee Phurpa, and Constable Tenzin Lobsang from the 3rd IRBn.
The team rushed towards Gumto, where they spotted three suspects acting suspiciously. Upon realizing the police were approaching, the suspects attempted to flee. A high-speed chase ensued, during which one of the suspects dropped a bag before escaping. The police pursued the suspects across the state border and successfully apprehended one of them in Assam.
Upon inspecting the bag, police discovered seven soap cases containing suspected heroin. The seized contraband weighed approximately 800 grams, with an estimated street value of ₹21 lakhs in the Arunachal Pradesh market.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Doimukh Police Station, and further investigations are underway. Police are continuing their efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the drug trafficking operation.
