ITANAGAR, Nov 29: Dera Natung Government College (DNGC), in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), successfully organized the 6th edition of Fit India Week at the DNGC Playground. The mega event witnessed active participation from over 400 attendees including students, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, faculty members, non-teaching staff, media personnel, and other invitees.
Inaugurating the event, Tamme Phassang, Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC), emphasized the importance of maintaining hygiene and cleanliness alongside physical activity for overall fitness. “Fitness is not just about exercise, it requires a clean environment, discipline, and balanced habits. Excess of anything is harmful,” he remarked. Phassang also administered the Fitness Pledge, encouraging students and faculty to adopt a healthy lifestyle and steer clear of harmful substances like drugs and alcohol.
Fr. (Dr.) Jose George SDB, Principal of Don Bosco College, Itanagar, in his address stressed the significance of discipline in achieving success across all aspects of life.
Dr. M.Q. Khan, Principal of DNGC, elaborated on the objectives of Fit India Week, stating that such initiatives raise awareness about leading a healthy and active lifestyle. He cautioned against the hazards of a sedentary lifestyle and underscored the need for a balanced diet and organized routine. He also warned against addictions to drugs, alcohol, smoking, and even excessive social media use, as these can negatively impact fitness.
The week-long event featured various sports competitions, including football, volleyball, and tug-of-war, with enthusiastic participation from NSS volunteers and NCC cadets.
Meanwhile, Satrajit Kachari, Assistant Director & Chief Operating Officer of SAI, applauded DNGC's efforts in organizing the event and reiterated the objectives of Fit India Week, emphasizing the role of fitness in achieving a healthy lifestyle.
The event was skillfully coordinated by NSS Programme Officer  Botem Moyong and PET  L.R. Singh, marking yet another successful chapter in DNGC's collaboration with SAI for promoting fitness and wellness among youth,stated a release.
