Itanagar, Sep 13: Dera Natung Government College (DNGC) is hosting a 3-day Basic Disaster Response Training program organized by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Itanagar which began today.
The DDMO, Moromi Dodum Sonam, outlined the objectives of the training program, which aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills to assist in rescue and relief efforts during disasters. She emphasized the importance of community preparedness and the need for volunteers to be trained and remain ready to respond to emergencies.
Principal of DNGC, Dr. M. Q. Khan, in his address 
stressed the importance of disaster preparedness, particularly in Arunachal Pradesh, where natural disasters are a common occurrence. He highlighted the potential risks posed by various natural and man-made disasters in the region, such as earthquakes, landslides, floods, fire accidents and forest fires. The Principal stressed the need for individuals to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively to such emergencies. He further added that NCC-Cadets and NCC Volunteers who are undergoing this important training shall have better job prospects.
He expressed hope that this training program would not only inculcate confidence in the volunteers but also instill within them the power to protect and save lives during disasters.
The three-day training program, which began on Friday will conclude on September 15. A total of 50 volunteers from DNGC, including 20 NCC cadets and 30 NSS volunteers, are participating in the training. Several NDRF officials and four NDRF instructors are present to provide expertise and guidance.
Participants will learn about disaster management concepts, risk assessment, emergency response procedures, and practical disaster response techniques. They will also have the opportunity to practice these skills through hands-on exercises.
By equipping volunteers with the necessary skills and knowledge, the Basic Disaster Response Training program has strengthened the community's capacity to respond to disasters and ensure the safety and well-being of its members. The volunteers are preparing to serve their community and potentially contribute to disaster response efforts on a larger scale.
The training program was successfully and effectively coordinated by Goke Riji, an Assistant Professor at DNGC.
