ITANAGAR, Oct 20: IQAC of Dera Natung Government college Itanagar in collaboration with SPIC MACAY and SRF organized a workshop on Odissi Dance in the college auditorium.
Dr M Q Khan, the principal of DNGC in his address highlighted the contribution and achievements of the college and exhorted the students to get acquainted with the rich cultural heritage of our mother land and said that classical dance forms including Odissi are real gems of our unique traditions and customs. He lauded the role of SPIC MACAY in sensitizing the youths on rich cultural heritage of our great nation especially about folk songs, folk dances and folk music.
Deputy Commissioner ICR who attended the programme in his address he appreciated the college and the SPIC Macay for organizing the significant event which will make the youth understand and learn the classical dance. He urged that students in schools and colleges should be encouraged and imparted coaching to learn Odissi dance.
Asha Kumari, the world-renowned exponent of Odissi hailing from Odisha elaborated on the origin, history and transformation of various forms of Odissi dance. She explained the meaning and significance of the dominant themes of devotion, Panchatantra and sensuality before her recital and performance. Many students interacted with her through their queries and cleared doubts about Odissi dance forms very enthusiastically.
Sokhep Kri, the chairman, SPIC MACAY, Arunachal chapter presented a brief account of the history of the organisation in Arunachal Pradesh and highlighted the objectives of Dashank and highlighted about the major activities of SPIC MACAY in the state.
The workshop was successfully coordinated by Dr Priyanka Dutta, the Assistant Professor and Deputy Coordinator , IQAC ,DNGCI and was attended by students of DNGC and different schools of Itanagar.
