PASIGHAT, Oct 7: District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA), Pasighat, East Siang district today organized a mental health camp at Pasighat Sub-jail.
The DLSA, East Siang District under the aegis of National Legal Services Authorities (NALSA) today organized its first mental health periodical camp along with a jail inspection by the Secretary DLSA for effective implementation of the provisions of the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017.
The mental health camp was attended by CJM cum Secretary DLSA Ms Tenzin Metho, Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel Molom Lego, Remand Lawyers John Tamuk and Kabang Panyang, Retainer Lawyer Ms Sunny Tayeng, Project Assistant DLSA, Moom Dai and staff of DLSA.
While inspecting the prison cell, DLSA Secretary interacted with the inmates and addressed various issues faced by the inmates. She informed them about the various provisions available for the jail inmates in terms of a healthy mental health. She told the inmates to have a strong resolve and lead a good life after release and be a good citizen.
She said that going to jail is not the end of the road and with acceptance and rehabilitation one can integrate into society. One to one counseling was facilitated for the jail inmates with discernible mental health issues by experts. The inmates who were in need of counseling were identified and then personal counseling sessions were provided to them. Some of the inmates were diagnosed and found to have symptoms of certain mental illnesses and were recommended for further course of treatment. DIPRO, Pasighat
