ROING, Oct 3: A sensitization and awareness programme on POCSO Act and Child Helpline 1098 was conducted today by the District Child Protection Unit, Roing.
Stakeholders from various departments, NGOs and local bodies of the district were present during the programme. Advocate Bysham Tyring (Legal aid defense counsel) stressed on the key features of POCSO Act like sexual assault, sexual harassment, pornography and related sections and punishments. SI T. Ami explained about the children in need of care and protection and child in conflict with law related punishment. 
Medical Officer Dr. Kimi Pulu spoke on the role of Medical Officers for the POCSO Victims. She stated that the doctors are first point of reference in confirming that if a child is indeed the victim of sexual abuse. Dr. Kimi notified that first aid and treatment should be provided to victims/ survivors of sexual assault without any delay. A female medical officer should examine a girl child who is below 18 years of age. The doctor explained that whenever examination of a child is done, a parent or any person whom the child trusts should be present throughout the examination.
Child Helpline Coordinator Embi Mega explained about the roles and process of child helpline in the district. She informed that 166 cases have been registered since 2019, till date. DD (ICDS) G. A. Perying also spoke during the programme.
