PASIGHAT, July 23: East Siang Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu and Superintendent of Police Dr. Sachin Kumar Singhal on Tuesday reviewed the working of the three drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centers at Ruksin and Oyan areas and interacted with the inmates and inquired about their health.
The visit gains prominence as a 21-year-old inmate was allegedly killed after being assaulted in a rehabilitation centre in Pasighat on July 20. Subsequently, the East Siang Police has arrested 11 individuals in connection with the death.
Informing that the purpose of the visit was to review the facilities being provided to the inmates at all these de-addiction centers, the DC directed the concerned authorities to ensure cleanliness in the de-addiction centers to keep the environment healthy. Taggu further made a social appeal stating “in order to eradicate the social evil of drugs, we should all work together and make people more aware of the ill effects of drugs and help those who have fallen into the trap of drugs for any reason.’ The DC added that the youth is our precious asset and every step should be taken to use their energies in a positive way in their reintegration in society and prevent any relapses in them in future.
“The de-addiction and rehabilitation centers should prove to be boons for the affected youths, where they are being counseled and enabled to join the mainstream again,” he said.
SP Dr. SK Singhal took stock of the measures taken so far for safety and security of the inmates and the infrastructure as well and advised the concerned management to ensure that affected youth may get maximum skilling opportunities and placement so that they earn their livelihood with dignity and honour.
DMO Dr K. Perme gave many healthy beneficial tips and laid stress on hygiene, yoga and physical activities on a regular basis.
During the visit, the DC and SP were accompanied by the ASP Pankaj Lamba, Ruksin ADC Kiran Ningo, EAC (Jud) Sanjay Taram, DD (ICDS) Machi Gao, DySP Ayup Boko, OC Ruksin Igel Lollen, WASE Gen Secy Joya Tasung Moyong and others.
