KHONSA, Nov 18: The Tirap district administration handed over compensation to the next of kin of three children who drowned in a deep pit during culvert construction at Longo village in 2021.
Circle Officer Longo Dr. Ripi Doni, in the presence of Pik Tayom, FAO, handed over cheques of Rs. 7,50,000/- (Seven lakh fifty thousand) being victim compensation to Gangtaih Wangsu and Rs. 3, 00,000/- (Three lakh) to Hongan Nokbi.
On 9th October, 2021, three children were drowned in a 9-feet deep pit dug for culvert construction at Longo village by SKS Infra Projects Ltd.
Four children had gone to a nearby jungle on the fateful day in search of vegetable locally known as "Dhekia saak" at around 9am in the morning when the tragic incident took place while they tried to cross the muddy pool.
The deceased children were identified as Kamlong Wangsu(12-year-old boy), Niman Wangsu(15-year-old girl) and Gannya Nokbi(10-year-old girl)
