Ramsing, Dec 15: In a bid to control the menace of tobacco in rural areas, a meeting was conducted at Ramsing village Community hall (DERE) under the chairmanship of Alo Pangkam, HGB Ramsing village under the aegis of District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC), Yingkiong recently.
Dr. India Modi, DPO(NTCP) initiated the meeting with awareness speech on harmful effects of Tobacco consumption and highlighted the importance of formation of Village Level Committee. Lalak Tatak, Psychologist (NTCP) also spoke on COTPA Act.
In the open discussion session, the members present show their concern over the harmful effects of tobacco and other related products among the younger generations and agreed upon to put a check on open sale of tobacco products to discourage its use in the village.
As per operational guidelines provided by NTCP Village Level Tobacco Control Committee was constituted. The village level Committee shall convene monthly meetings along with VHSC and shall sensitized villagers about tobacco control and will report violators of COTPA. DIPRO
