ITANAGAR, Oct 17: The Joint Action Committee for Postal Department Fiasco (JACPDF) reiterated its two-point demand on Tuesday, seeking the intervention of the state government in the appointment of 2596 Non-APST Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) in 866 branches of Post Offices (PO) in the state.
Addressing reporters at the press club here, JACPDF Convenor Raj Pao informed that the committee had submitted a reminder letter to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), seeking an early response from Chief Minister Pema Khandu regarding its demands.
"It seems that the state government is not interested in solving the issue, as there has been no response to date, even after a series of democratic movements organized by the committee," he added.
He appealed to the CM for an early appointment to discuss the matter, stating that it is becoming increasingly urgent to come to an amicable solution. The situation is chaotic, as after the completion of the fifth list of appointments for the position of GDS, the concerned department is likely to publish a new advertisement to fill the canceled posts within the next fortnight or so.
"We will launch grassroots-level civil disobedience and non-cooperation movements if the state government fails to provide appointments promptly," the JACPDF convenor said.
The demands of the committee include a recommendation for the inclusion of domicile/proof of residence certificate as a mandatory requirement for selection/recruitment in the state, in adherence to the Eastern Bengal Frontier Regulation, 1873, and the Chin Hills Act, 1896. Additionally, they sought a recommendation for the inclusion of knowledge of any of the local dialects of the 26 major tribes of the state.
Further, Pao informed that the Department of Post had stopped the recruitment process in response to the memorandum submitted by the committee on September 8th, while requesting the concerned authority to halt the recruitment process.
