ITANAGAR, Nov 30: The Arunachal Civil Society (ACS), on Thursday, condemned the recent incident of physical assault on junior students by the seniors at Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA), Chimpu.
In a 16-point representation submitted to the state government, ACS women's wing has outlined several measures to protect students and create a safe and secure learning environment in schools across the state.
Addressing the media at the press club, ACS- Women wing Chairperson, Koj Baya Eshi has demanded for state government intervention to protect children staying in hostels. She said that SLSA is not an exception but such cases prevail in schools across the state and needs serious intervention.
She said the incident in the SLSA is not acceptable by any person living in a civilised society. The ACS while seeking the termination of the Director, Principal, Hostel Warden demanded for a safe environment for children both in schools and hostels.
“The authorities of the school and officials from the Women and Child Welfare must look into the matter and take this into priority,” she added.
Earlier, following the order of Secretary Sports & Youth Affairs, Abu Tayeng, a total of ten Class 10 students have been expelled from the SLSA. The academy, located in Chimpu, Itanagar, has also been temporarily shut down for seven days, effective Wednesday.
