Indigo begins daily flights on Itanagar-Kolkata route

Itanagar, Jul 31: Civil Aviation Minister, Balo Raja, visited Donyi Polo Airport, Itanagar at Hollongi today to review the status of under construction permanent Terminal Building & ATC Tower, completion of which is inordinately delayed and the airport has been operating with the temporary Terminal Building with limited amenities and a mobile ATC since commissioning of the airport on 19th November 2022.
He was accompanied by Secretary (Civil Aviation) Swapnil M Naik, and Deputy Commissioner, Papum Pare District, Jiken Bomjen.
The Minister and his team inspected the under construction Permanent Terminal Building & ATC Tower. The Airport Director (AAI) P. Narendra briefed about the progress of works and explained through a powerpoint in a meeting held at the VIP Lounge of temporary Terminal Building after the inspection.
After review, Raja asked the Airport Director to expedite the works and ensure completion of the permanent Terminal Building & ATC Tower within October, 2024 to make them operational by December, 2024.
The Minister also asked the Airport Director to complete the construction of barrack for accommodation of Airport Security personnel within one year so that CISF can be posted for airport security duty in place of existing interim arrangement of State Police. 
The Airport Director informed that more than 1.5 lakh passengers availed the airport in last one year and it is in increasing trend. He also informed that considering increasing passengers and pursuance of Government of Arunachal Pradesh, the Donyi Polo airport is operating 7 days a week from today, the 31st July, 2024 with Indigo now operating everyday flight on Itanagar-Kolkata route. He further added that Itanagar-Guwahati flight service will also resume very soon. Considering rush of passengers, he appealed for a separate police outpost for the Airport.
