ITANAGAR, July 14: In a significant development in the Women Police Station Case No-20/24, the investigation team has successfully submitted a charge sheet before the court of the Learned Special Judge (POCSO) against 28 accused people. This case, which involves the recovery of five minor victim girls in May 2024 who were trafficked and forced into the sex trade, has been meticulously investigated and brought to a crucial stage of judicial processing.
Superintendent of Police, ICR, Rohit Rajbir Singh (IPS), in his press communique, detailed that the case has been charge-sheeted under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and various acts, including sections 120B, 201, 323, 354, 354(A), 366A, 370, 370(A), 373, 376AB, and 506 IPC, 1860, along with Sections 4, 6, 8, 12, 17, and 21 of the POCSO Act, 2012, and Sections 3, 4, 5, and 6 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
The chargesheet was finalized within the mandated sixty-day period, ensuring that no arrested accused persons were granted default bail. The police have strongly objected to bail for all the accused, ensuring they remain in judicial custody.
In a recent development, two new arrests were made in the case. Niru Das, a woman involved in the network of pimps who procured customers to sexually assault the minor victims, has been apprehended. The investigation into her network is ongoing, and further details will be disclosed as they become available. Additionally, Bamang Moses, another identified sexual assailant who had been evading arrest, was captured yesterday following the issuance of a Non-Bailable Warrant of Arrest (NBWA). The investigation team of WPS Itanagar successfully executed the arrest.
SP Singh emphasized that more arrests are expected as the investigation progresses. Regular updates will be provided to ensure transparency and public awareness regarding the case.
