TAWANG, Oct 12: Joint Secretary (BM-II), Ministry of Home Affairs, Pausami Basu arrived at Tawang on a three-day official visit. She was accorded a warm reception at the Urgyen Tsangpo helipad this morning by Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang, SP DW Thongon, and other officials.
During discussions with the heads of offices, Joint Secretary Basu highlighted the formal approval of the Vibrant Village Programme in February earlier this year. Over the past six months, Tawang has proactively undertaken numerous activities, resulting in heightened public awareness of this new tourist destination. The village action plans submitted by the state government are under consideration and will soon be sanctioned for further implementation, Basu said.
Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang emphasized in his welcome address that the Vibrant Village Programme is progressing, and every effort will be made to ensure its success. This initiative is not only poised to boost the economy of border villages but also to discourage migration from border areas to urban cities, Darang said.
A comprehensive presentation on the activities carried out under the Vibrant Village Programme was delivered by Choiki Dondup, EAC cum District Planning Officer.
In the course of her visit, Joint Secretary Basu toured Tawang Monastery, Bramdungchung Ani Gonpa, and Tawang Emporium, with plans to visit Vibrant Village Jemeithang on Friday.
